Our Story
Château Haut Grelot was born in 1920 from a small farm in the village of "Les Grelots". My great-grandfather and my grandfather established the estate on the cultivation of vines and livestock. In 1927, we obtained the right to draw water from the well within our buildings, which allowed the estate to be united.
This grouping consolidated the birth of Château Haut Grelot and allowed its development. We might not be where we are today, which is why the year 1927 has a strong symbolism for us. In 1975, Joël Bonneau, my father, took over the family business, focusing it exclusively on the cultivation of vines. In 1981, he began direct sales to prioritize Producer-Consumer contact and devote himself most singularly to your request.
Over the past 30 years, he has expanded the vineyard by selecting quality grape varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot for the red grape varieties.
A pioneer in wine-making techniques, he strived to modernize production tools, work in harmony with nature and share his passion with you.
Today, Château Haut Grelot covers 67 hectares. Céline and I work together to ensure the quality of the wines and the image of Château Haut Grelot.
We believe in a balance between innovation and tradition. While our winery boasts cutting-edge equipment and technology, we remain committed to traditional grape varieties through the diversity of our vineyard's terroirs. To express the authenticity of our wines, we strive to preserve the artisanal and natural aspects of winemaking. Today, we work part of our vineyard organically, which allows us to rationalize our cultivation practices.

Our Vineyard
In our vineyard, two terroirs predominate: Sandy-gravelly on the hillsides bordering the Gironde Estuary and Sandy-clayey-silty on the hillsides further inland.
These soils bring fruitiness and power to our red wines, and all the freshness, expression of aromas, and deliciousness to our white wines.
It is striking to see the undulating nature of our hillsides compared to the rest of the appellation.
These exposures are very favorable for perfect exposure of the grapes and natural flow.
The Blaye region benefits from a favorable microclimate, characterized by high sunshine rates and ideal humidity for grape ripening, thanks to the influence of the Gironde estuary.
We cultivate our vines with ever greater care through precise and reasoned operations.
Disbudding, de-suckering, leaf thinning, low yields, and green harvesting are essential practices for obtaining perfectly ripe grapes. The objective is to spread the bunches on the vine so that they benefit from maximum sunshine and aeration, synonymous with quality for the future wine.

Our Commitments
Sustainable Cultivation
Since 2015, we have been working with a supplier, EURALIS, to reduce the use of phytosanitary inputs through the "OPTIDOSE" program. Our goal is to meet the needs of the vine while preserving the ecosystem.
All our efforts are focused on clean and sustainable viticulture to offer you quality wines that respect the environment.
Today, we work part of our vineyard organically, which allows us to rationalize our cultivation practices.
